Blog Comments and SEO – Are You Rewarding Your Commentors?
If you have a blog, one of the best things you can possibly do to make it better is to regularly visit other great blogs and comment and syndicate them. Reading other blogs has had a major impact on almost everything I do online. I love that blogs allow interaction through commenting and if they are set up properly, make it easy to share and syndicate the content as thanks for the great info.
Another benefit of commenting on blogs is that there is a backlink to your site created every time you leave a comment. Creating relevant backlinks is essential for Search Engine Optimization, also called Search Engine Marketing.
What most people who have blogs as well as those who comment don’t know is that there is a wide range of SEO benefit depending on the quality of the link. All it takes is just a few plugins to change this and enable the commenter to get two quality links every time they leave a comment.
SEO and Nofollow vs. Dofollow
By default WordPress makes these “nofollow” and the anchor text (the words in the link) is usually the name of the commentor which is not useful in terms of keywords. For the best benefits, anchor text should always contain keywords relevant to the piece of content linked to.
How to tell if a blog is nofollow:
There is a great extension for Firefox called Search Status. There are a number of uses for this, and one of them is to highlight nofollow links.
To install Search Status, check out their site:

Comment Luv, Do Follow and Keyword Luv
To read more about the plugins you can look up Do Follow and Comment Luv in your wordpress back office. These can be installed easily. Unfortunately Keyword Luv isn’t available there at this time.
To get the Keyword Luv plugin go to the following site:

Once you have it, you can upload it to the plugins folder in your WordPress back office. Once you do, you would activate it and adjust the settings just like any other plugin.
I would love to hear any comments or questions that you may have. Remember, if you leave a comment on this blog, don’t forget to include a couple of relevant keywords with your name (instructions are at the bottom of the page).

I believe you always get something out of bringing Dofollow to your comment section. I mean if you treat your readers with comment love you can be sure to get a trusted party of readers who come back!
